The Chef is based in Basel, Switzerland and is always looking for a great event within a radius of 20 km, should your event be taking place in an area more than that radius, this can be accommodated only upon request.

Frequently asked questions and answers about the chef.

What do I have to pay attention to, at a private catering?

The most important rule is: Define all the details and additional stipulations you may have with the chef to avoid unpleasant surprises. On the basis of package offers mentioned on the website; you can always verify what you are entitled to should there be any critical ambiguities open.

What should be cooked? / What can be cooked?

The private chef can prepare everything you can imagine. Whether vegetarian, appetizer plates, 3-5 star menus or a simple home cooking.

If you cannot find what your taste buds prefer on the Menus offered, you can also point out a specific dish menu or even just one style. Our chef knows a wide range of recipes and can therefore also advise you well and suggest suitable dishes.

Can the Chef also cook vegetarian or vegan?

For vegetarian or vegan dishes the chef has a corresponding offer. The important thing is that you inform him that before booking.

What about allergies or intolerances?

The chef is well equipped to handle allergies/ intolerances too. Simply address the topic in advance.

Who gets the menu Ingredients/groceries?

As an agreement/part of the services, the private Chef brings along all the Organic groceries, such as vegetables, spices and other pre “put in place ingredients.” Only then can they ensure that all ingredients are available in the required quantity, freshness and quality.

Which drinks to accompany the meal?

Of course, it depends on the food. If you are not sure, ask the chef in advance which wine to recommend. Unless otherwise agreed, you must provide the drinks yourself. No drinks will be provided unless as per a pre-arranged agreement.

Which cooking utensils are needed?

The private chef will usually use his or her pans, pots and equipment from their own kitchen;this is in assumption that the client has such standard equipment.Depending on the adversity of the dish, the chef will bring along what’s necessary. Gastrover recommends discussing with the chef what exactly is available and what is needed to execute the menu.

Can the hiring chef bring dishes?

Many Chefs offer such a service. Which is usually worthwhile only for larger celebrations and events. If you need or expect tablecloths or a table decoration, just talk it over with the chef.

Does the Chef serve the dishes?

Yes depending on the ordered package, the hiring chef will usually serve them. And explain to you directly what is on the plates. For very large groups, this is more difficult and will require an additional service force.

For how many people can the Chef cater to?

This will depend on our packages which are 2 to 4 people due to the quality experience the Chef intends on maintaining, however more than 4 people but less than 10 is no problem as long as the client agrees with the chef on the number of people in advance.

How long does the preparation take?

This depends largely on the number of courses and people. For example, if you expect a simple 3-course meal for 4 people this will be approximately about 2-3 hours, Please note that time-consuming meals and preparation methods take longer of course. Some meals have the possibility of the Chef also preparing some ingredients beforehand. Be sure to let the chef know when the meal should be served on the agreement in advance, this will inform the chef about the time required.

How long in advance do I have to book the Chef?

The earlier the better but we recommend contacting us at least 2 weeks in advance before the event.

Can one look over at the chef while preparing?

Of course! The chef does not mind if you take a look at their work during preparation. As long you do not overdo it we welcome you to put your mind at ease and see the magic work. If you want to learn a particular dish, ask them explicitly for a private cooking class so you can not only watch, but also help actively.

What costs can arise?

Each Private chef determines his or her own prices. Where the costs are significantly dependent on the techniques, ingredients used and their availability, duration of preparation and possibly any additional requirements for execution.

Professional rental Chefs will either give you a grand total or submit an estimate offer. If a total is mentioned, please clarify necessarily what is already there or not yet included.

Below are some important things to note:

It is important to note that the foods used on the menus (such as seafood or Top meat cuts like T-Bone or Fillets) can make the whole calculation more expensive. And an upscale menu can easily cost 2-3 times the listed prices

In general, the chef calculates a minimum sum, from which it is worthwhile for the client and chef Services. As a rule, this concerns the preparation for 2-4 persons.
